ECOPOOL+++: Developing a sustainable outdoor heated swimming pool

The University of Algarve, in consortium with “Cristal Construções – Materiais e Obras de Construção Civil”, “Itelmatis Control Systems” and “Itecons Instituto Investigação Desenvolvimento Tecnológico para a Construção, Energia, Ambiente Sustentabilidade”, is developing new concept outdoor heated sustainable swimming pool, having higher energy efficiency lower environmental footprint. main objective to minimise water consumptions, while assuring comfortable temperature for the user, extending utilization pool Algarve region, from summer months, at least 8 months year. In order do it, different systems will be tested, including solar thermal photovoltaic panels, inverted underfloor heating, heat accumulator exchanger phase change materials dissipating pipes. An innovative insulation system included interior tank, together covering plane. All these monitored controlled by an industrial automation that communicate, via programmable logic controller, using industry standard communication protocols, SMART platform, charge global operation's optimisation. This platform support intelligent predictive control monitoring module, controls maximize usage renewable sources, user preferences. One outputs this project construction smaller scale prototype characteristics mentioned above, test validate proposed developments.
